Have you ever come across an effective manager, a good boss at work?   I am lucky, I have been working with some of them in my early career and have met some recently.     They manage themselves and their teams in some certain ways that make them effective and charming, they have some quality we can learn or we can remind ourselves.

  • Take Ownership

I have met a salesperson about four to five months ago, he has winning records of sales performance but he has not done much about team leadership.   So, I have shared with him some thoughts, however, he has other priority that time and he has not worked on those.

In last few weeks, he initiated a meeting and re-activated that earlier discussion, sharing what feedback he has solicited from his team and how he sees it.  We then discussed and we started on a coaching plan. Now he is working hard on the issues and we see some good progress.

He takes ownership instead of giving himself excuses, he acts on.  With that, half of the battle is done.

Be an effective and charming leader?  Yes, we can.
