I have worked in an international company earlier for about 8 years, really enjoyed the time there, learning a lot. And now after years, I still have good sharing with those ex-colleagues on the leadership and the team culture there.
- Open to Different Ideas
One of the leaders was my Asia regional HR leader who based in Tokyo. He is a good listener encouraging us to speak up and share ideas. I remember that time we had a challenge on talent engagement when we were working on a merger and acquisition project. He listened, he embraced diversity and treasured different views. We debated but we ended up with an effective talent engagement arrangement which served well to the people and the business.
Another leader was my global HR leader who based in US. There was a situation where an important decision made from Headquarter, however, locally we had some concerns, so we shared and we suggested some alternative arrangements. In a few days’ time, he changed his decision and accepted our suggestions. He showed the strength of a real leader.
A good leader is also a good listener embracing different views and pulling the team together to share and grow.
